The "Tower Six Brothers" in Japan:
1. Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER (formerly "Nagoya TV Tower"):
Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER, known initially as Nagoya TV Tower, is Japan's earliest completed radio tower in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. Standing at a height of 180 meters, it is one of Nagoya's iconic landmarks and is managed by Chubu Electric Power Co., Ltd.
The tower was designated National Tangible Cultural Property in 2005 and was renamed Chubu Electric MIRAI TOWER in May. It has been utilized by various broadcasting stations, including NHK Nagoya Broadcasting, Tokai Television, and Nagoya Television, for transmitting television signals.
Despite its broadcasting mission concluding in 2011, the tower has become a must-visit destination, recognized as a "Lover's Sanctuary" and a "Japanese Night View Heritage."
2. Tsutenkaku:
Tsutenkaku is an observation tower in Osaka's Naniwa Ward in the Shinsekai district. A tangible cultural property of Japan and a symbol of Osaka, the name Tsutenkaku means "Tower Reaching Heaven" and was coined by the early Meiji scholar Fusazo Fujita.
Designed by the architect Tachu Naito, who also designed Tokyo Tower, the current Tsutenkaku was completed in 1956. With a height of 100 meters (103 meters with lightning rod), made from 350 tons of iron, it stands as a prominent entertainment facility symbolizing the "New World" district in Osaka.
3. Beppu Tower:
Standing at a height of 90 meters, Beppu Tower is the shortest among the Tower Six Brothers. It appears as a giant antenna erected on top of a building. Constructed as a radio tower in 1957 for the Beppu Hot Springs Tourism Industry Expo, it has transformed into a tourist facility due to aging equipment.
The 16th-floor observation deck, trendy for nighttime visits, offers a scenic view, making it a tourist favorite spot.
4. Sapporo TV Tower:
Erected at the entrance of the beautiful Odori Park, Sapporo TV Tower hosts various seasonal events reflecting the distinctive features of Sapporo.
From the observation platform, the tower offers views of the changing seasons and hosts events such as the Sapporo Snow Festival, White Illumination Festival, Lilac Festival, Flower Competition, and Fireworks Festival.
5. Tokyo Tower:
Tokyo Tower, a symbol of Tokyo, stands at 333 meters, ranking as Japan's second tallest structure after Tokyo Skytree. It is a bustling destination with an observation deck at 150 meters, providing panoramic views of Tokyo.
Beneath the tower is the Tokyo Tower Foot Town, a complex offering dining, shopping, and activities. Tokyo Tower features unique lighting schemes based on various holidays and occasions throughout the year, making it a familiar and iconic attraction.
6. Hakata Port Tower:
Often likened to a "Tokyo Tower with its top cut off," Hakata Port Tower is a radio tower for maritime communication, relaying weather information and essential details to incoming and outgoing ships.
While part of the Tower Six Brothers, Hakata Port Tower does not transmit television signals and is primarily utilized by the coastal bureau.
